Wounds of Faith explores the complicated relationship between belief and suffering.
Faith is often portrayed as comfort, certainty, and salvation. But faith can also demand something from us. It can be questioned, tested, broken, rebuilt, and carried through experiences that leave permanent marks.
The figure within the composition becomes both individual and symbol, caught between devotion and pain. The surrounding forms seem to press inward, blurring the boundaries between the physical, emotional, and spiritual.
The title deliberately leaves the source of the wounds unresolved.
Are these wounds suffered because of faith?
Wounds inflicted by faith?
Or are they the scars created when faith survives something that should have destroyed it?
Wounds of Faith does not attempt to answer those questions. Instead, it leaves the viewer inside the tension between belief and doubt, sacrifice and salvation, suffering and transcendence.
Because sometimes faith does not remove the wound.
Sometimes the wound becomes part of the faith.
