Two faces emerge as one in I Am and I Am, an exploration of duality, perception, identity, and the opposing forces that can exist within a single being.
At first glance, I Am and I Am appears to present a single face. Look longer, and the image begins to divide.
Two presences emerge within the same form, occupying the same space while appearing to see from different perspectives. Neither completely overtakes the other. They coexist.
The title transforms the biblical declaration “I Am” into something more ambiguous: I Am and I Am.
The work explores duality not as a battle between simple opposites, but as the possibility that seemingly contradictory forces can belong to the same whole. Light and darkness. Observer and observed. Conscious and unconscious. Self and other. The person we believe ourselves to be and the presence watching from somewhere behind that identity.
The division running through the composition reinforces that tension, while the enormous eyes dominate the work and turn perception itself into the subject.
Which face are you looking at?
And which one is looking back?
I Am and I Am invites the viewer to remain with that uncertainty rather than resolve it.
