We see a face and instinctively believe we are seeing a person.

Behind the Eyes questions that assumption.

Two enormous blue eyes dominate the composition, surrounded by an explosion of yellow, red, orange, green, violet, and black. The face is unmistakably present, yet it refuses to resolve into something simple or predictable. Its features twist into circles, spirals, curves, and intersecting lines, as though the visible person is only the outermost layer of something far more complicated.

The eyes become the center of that mystery.

We often call them windows to the soul, but windows work in both directions. We look through them trying to understand another person while something on the other side is looking back at us.

And what lies behind them remains largely inaccessible.

Memories. Fear. Desire. Regret. Imagination. Contradictions. Private conversations. Entire histories can exist behind a face without ever revealing themselves to the outside world.

The vibrant palette creates another contradiction. This is not a dark painting about hidden identity. It is energetic, playful, almost exuberant. The intensity of the color suggests that the internal world may actually be richer and more alive than the exterior one.

Behind the Eyes ultimately asks how much we ever truly know another person.

Perhaps every face we encounter is merely the surface of an enormous private universe.
