Judges is an original abstract work by Michael J. Thomas that transforms color, line, and distorted facial forms into a gathering of watchful presences. Piercing eyes emerge from saturated reds, greens, blues, and black contours, creating the sensation that the viewer is being observed as much as observing the painting.

The work plays with judgment and perception: who is looking at whom, and what do we imagine those eyes see? Chaotic forms resolve into recognizable features only to dissolve again, allowing different personalities and expressions to emerge with each viewing.
