Behind the Eyes explores the mystery contained within the human gaze.

Large, penetrating blue eyes dominate the composition, surrounded by saturated color, exaggerated features, and flowing abstract forms. The face appears recognizable and unfamiliar at the same time, shifting between portrait and abstraction depending on where the viewer chooses to focus.

The eyes become the anchor.

We often believe that looking into someone's eyes allows us to understand them. Yet behind every gaze exists an interior world that remains largely inaccessible to everyone else: memory, fear, desire, imagination, contradiction, and thought.

The surrounding forms seem almost to represent that internal landscape spilling outward, refusing to remain contained within the boundaries of the face.

Behind the Eyes asks whether we ever truly see another person, or whether we only see the surface behind which an entire private universe exists.

And perhaps the longer we stare into those eyes, the less certain it becomes who is observing whom.
