Wound of Faith confronts the complicated relationship between belief and suffering.
An ancient, almost archetypal female figure occupies the composition. In her hand, one of humanity's most recognizable symbols of faith has undergone a disturbing transformation: the cross has become a blade, turned toward her own heart.
The image is deliberately contradictory.
The cross traditionally represents salvation, sacrifice, forgiveness, and eternal life. Here, the same symbol becomes capable of inflicting a wound.
That contradiction lies at the center of the work.
Faith has given humanity extraordinary sources of meaning, comfort, community, and hope. Yet belief can also become entangled with guilt, fear, sacrifice, persecution, and suffering. The very thing capable of sustaining a person can, in another form, become something that wounds them.
The ancient quality of the figure pushes the idea beyond any single religion, individual, or moment in history. Humanity has wrestled with gods, sacrifice, suffering, and salvation for thousands of years.
Wound of Faith does not reject belief or provide an answer. Instead, it asks a more uncomfortable question:
When does the thing we look toward for salvation become the thing that wounds us?
This collector's edition is strictly limited to 20 prints total across all available sizes. Each print is personally hand signed and individually numbered 1/20 through 20/20 by Michael J. Thomas and includes a Certificate of Authenticity from Khaos Art Studios.
