Sleeping Sorrows inhabits the strange territory between sadness and stillness.
A solitary face dominates the composition, its enormous blue eye looking outward across a dark and restless landscape. Flowing lines move through the scene like wind, water, memory, or thought, while a lone bird passes through the distance.
Nothing in the painting tells us precisely what has happened.
That uncertainty is part of the work.
The sorrow here is not dramatic or explosive. It has become quieter, something carried rather than announced. The figure appears caught somewhere between observation, contemplation, and withdrawal, watching a world that continues to move even while something within remains unresolved.
The title Sleeping Sorrows suggests emotions that may become dormant without ever truly disappearing. Memories fade, wounds quiet, and life moves forward, yet certain things remain beneath the surface, capable of awakening without warning.
The painting leaves the story deliberately unfinished. The viewer is invited to decide what the figure remembers, what has been lost, and whether the distant bird represents departure, freedom, loneliness, or perhaps the possibility of finally letting go.
This collector's edition is strictly limited to 20 prints total. Each print is personally hand signed and individually numbered 1/20 through 20/20 by Michael J. Thomas and includes a Certificate of Authenticity from Khaos Art Studios documenting its place within the edition.
