Sleeping Sorrows captures sadness not at its loudest, but at its quietest.
The figure appears withdrawn from the outside world, suspended somewhere between sleep, exhaustion, and reflection. Surrounding forms seem to drift around the face like fragments of thought, memory, or emotion that refuse to disappear completely.
There are sorrows we express openly and others we carry silently. Some are confronted. Some are buried. Some simply become part of us, following us into the private spaces where there is no longer anyone to convince that everything is fine.
The title suggests that sorrow itself may sleep, but it does not necessarily leave.
Sleeping Sorrows explores that vulnerable space where sadness becomes quiet enough to coexist with stillness, beauty, and perhaps even the possibility of peace.
Rather than explaining the figure's story, the work leaves room for the viewer to recognize something of their own.
This collector's edition is strictly limited to 20 prints. Each print is personally hand signed and individually numbered 1/20 through 20/20 by Michael J. Thomas and includes a Certificate of Authenticity from Khaos Art Studios documenting its place within the edition.
